Exploring an Empty 110 Room Mansion

Lynnewood Hall is a 110 room Neoclassical Revival mansion that was built in 1899 and is one of the largest last remaining gilded age mansions in the US. Originally built for the Widener family-- two of whom tragically died on the Titanic in 1912. It has sat abandoned and inaccessible to the public for years… I can hardly believe I had permission to not only come walk the halls that are just dripping in history and so many untold stories, but to bring my camera and create art and new memories there as well.

While the enormously grand rooms were obviously incredibly gorgeous, I found myself most drawn to the smaller details— the way the light poured in through the front door like a runway, the intricate detailing on the walls, the 9’ tall doors, a neatly tucked away pile of books, the bedroom closets like little portals, and a small lamp that dimly lit the hallway to the cellar.

It felt surreal to be there, on the other side of the camera for a change, wearing a glorious star-spotted gown, twirling through the halls of such an incredible piece of history. I took so many photos, but here are just a few.
